I haul my JD4400 TLB on a 7000#GVW double axle 16'+2'dovetail trailer w/electric brakes. The trailer is plenty long because I back my tractor on to get the proper tongue weight. The capacity of my trailer and the strength of my truck are not a problem but I would like to add shock absorbers to my trailer to help manage some of the rebound after the springs compress under the weight of the tractor while driving over bridge overpasses. Does anybody know of a manufacturer of shock absorbers for trailers? Or have a solution to help minimize the rebound.

Al, I don't know, but surely some of the cargo trailers have shock absorbers (probably not very many of them though). I know some travel trailers used to come with shock absorbers and some without, and having them made a big difference. The only ones I was familiar with just used regular car shocks, but I would think a good welder should be able to put brackets on the trailer frame and axle (I know; you want to be careful about welding on the axle - so you might be able to make brackets instead that could be bolted onto the axle with U-bolts) and of course measure the distance between where you want the brackets and decide how heavy duty shocks you want; should be no step at all for a good fabricator. ....

I have the same trailer you do 18' dove tail 8'6" wide. I haul tractor and implements with out a problem. If I get it loaded right when I cross bridges it rides like a baby buggy. Keep in mind I usally drive alittle faster than the posted speed limit, I drive mine on the trailer and stop with the loader bucket about 2' away from the front. If I put the tractor all the way to the front with out the loader on it will beat me and my truck to death. I now every one does things different, but this is how I do it. ....

Al, check with an RV dealer for trailer shocks. Most towable campers don't have them but they are a semi-popular add on for improved ride and handling. Hope this helps, Rob. ....
